Chapter 1: Starting with Konkani
Tugele Naav Kasane? (thu-ge-le naa-vuh kuh-suh-ne)
When meeting someone for the first time, it’s common to ask their name. In Konkani, you do this by saying: Tugele Naav Kasane?
Let’s break it down. Here, Tugele means your, Naav means name and Kasane means What is? Putting this together, it literally means: “Your name – what is it?”, or more naturally, “What is your name?”
Tugele Naav Kasane? = What is your name?
Migele Naav [your_name] (Mee-ge-le naa-vuh )
To respond, you simply say: Migele Naav [your_name].
Migele = my, Naav = name, and add your name at the end. For Example,
Migele Naav Chaitra = My name is Chaitra
Note: You could also casually just say your name if you’re keeping it short and informal.
